Two months after separating from her husband, and three months after her luxurious secret dinner date with what turned out to be a “campaign strategist” was discovered, Somali Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has filed for divorce from her husband.
The freshman Democrat’s break-up with her current husband, Ahmed Hirsi, comes amid widespread allegations and evidence indicating she married her own brother to skirt immigration law.
The Muslim congresswoman first married Hirsi in 2002 when she was 19. She then divorced Hirsi in 2008 and married the man alleged to be her biological brother, Ahmed Elmi, in 2009.
She and Elmi divorced in 2017 and she remarried Hirsi in 2018 and had a third child. Public records show Omar was still living with Hirsi while she was married to her brother.
It is often said that politics is “show business for ugly people,” but even Hollywood couldn’t write a script as wild as the story of the lascivious Congresswoman.
Documents obtained from North Dakota State University show that Omar was married to both Elmi and Hirsi at the same time in 2009.
“A marriage certificate dated February 12, 2009, shows Ilhan Abdullahi Omar married a man by the name of Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in Hennepin County, Minnesota, who she identified as a British citizen,” we reported. “On another application dated September 30, 2002, Omar applied for a marriage license in Minnesota to marry the father of her children, Ahmed “Hirsi,” otherwise known as Ahmed Aden.”
Omar’s questionable marriage records were not widely reported until she was seen having dinner with a mystery man at a swanky Los Angeles restaurant. Around that time, she also moved out of her family home and into a penthouse apartment in Minneapolis. Only then did the mainstream, conservative press take interest.
Now, it has been revealed by Daily Mail that Omar has officially filed for divorce.
“The news also follows DailyMail.com revealing Omar’s secret relationship with her then-married campaign strategist Tim Mynett, whose own wife filed for divorce in August, claiming he had made a ‘shocking declaration of love’ for Omar,” Daily Mail said.
According to divorce court documents obtained by TMZ, Omar said that she and Hirsi have gone through an “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage relationship.” She is reportedly seeking joint custody of the couple’s three children.
Adding another layer to the already-scandalous story, Mynett’s firm has received more than $250,000 from Omar’s campaign for “consulting fees and travel expenses” this year alone. After the news of the affair broke, Omar was accused of illegally using campaign funds to pay for her “lover” to travel around the country with her. Reports said that $21,500 of the $250,000 was spent on “travel expenses.”
Meanwhile, Mynett’s wife Beth filed for divorce from him after learning of her husband’s unfaithfulness. The couple has a young son, of whom Beth intends to seek full custody.
“Beth’s attorneys are expected to tell the court how her cheating spouse put their son in ‘harm’s way’ – by exposing him to the media backlash and death threats Omar has received because of her comments about Israel and her high-profile feud with President Donald Trump,” Daily Mail said.
