The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is launching a full-blown investigation into how one of its recruitment ads ended up on Breitbart, that big, bad, scary, conservative news site, according to Associated Press.
“Police Chief Michel Moore said Saturday on Twitter that the LAPD did not purchase ad space from the site and is trying to determine whether the posting was meant to tarnish the department’s image,” AP said.
Moore went full conspiracy theorist in a further tweet, accusing some unnamed entity of spoofing the ad to “discredit” the LAPD.
“No. LAPD did NOT purchase or otherwise acquire ad space on that website. Senior leadership at LA City Personnel Department also relayed they did not authorize or pay for this ad either. Both Depts investigating whether spoof/other effort to discredit LAPD,” he said.
According to the department, “such a job listing would conflict with its core values.” (Rampant drug use, crime and homelessness in Los Angeles, on the other hand, align perfectly with those values).
As usual, the dorks at shadow group Sleeping Giants, run by a San Francisco fellow named Matt Rivitz, were on scene to complain.
Rivitz, who has refused to discuss how his group is funded, has made it his life’s work to shame corporations whose ads appear on Breitbart until they take the ads down – a truly pathetic existence. Most ads don’t end up on any website by choice, as most companies simply pay third party vendors to place ads on websites. That seems to be the case here.
“City of Los Angeles personnel department spokesman Bruce Whidden told the [Los Angeles] Times that his agency buys job ads through Google on behalf of the LAPD and other city departments. The department is now reexamining its ad filters, he said,” according to AP.
The core beef that Rivitz has with Breitbart is his belief the website is run by bigots. In this case (and in most others), “bigot” is defined as “anyone who disagrees with the far-left politics of Matt Rivitz.”
But, I digress.
Back to the LAPD, whose city is a sanctuary for illegal alien lawbreakers. Rather than spending their time enforcing the law, the cops have chosen to spend their time getting to the bottom of this very serious ad placement issue.
“We are aware that a recruitment advertisement has been circulated on a website that creates a negative juxtaposition to our core values,” the department said in separate statement.
Breitbart weighed in on the situation. Spokeswoman Elizabeth Moore said the site is “one of the most pro-police, pro-law-enforcement news organizations in America.”
“We have been cited by the New York Times Magazine as having one of the most diverse news rooms in the nation, with a history of promoting women and minorities into leadership positions. We also know we have strong readership among the rank-and-file in the LAPD,” she continued.
Considering it in that light, it makes sense that an advertisement for job recruitment from a police organization would end up on Breitbart. It’s the perfect target audience for such an ad.
Here’s hoping that the sleuths at the LAPD get to the bottom of this very serious issue. Maybe after that, they can start fighting crime, as they’re meant to do.
