Migrant detention facilities along the U.S. southern border are no different than dungeons used to keep slaves captives in Africa centuries ago, warns freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar(D-MN).
In footage published by the GOP War Room Saturday evening, the anti-Semitic self-described “Squad” member compared migrant shelters to medieval dungeons used in Ghana during the slave trade.
In an emotional testimony, Omar gravely described visiting a dungeon in the North African country when she cautioned illegal immigrants are subjected to indistinguishable conditions in America.
“We arrived in Ghana, and one of the first things we did was to visit what some would say is a castle, but they were dungeons,” the Democrat lawmaker said. “And I remember as we arrived, one of the guys let us into the female dungeon and he started giving us a description of what used to take place as the Africans were being kept – were held there as captives.
“And every time he gave a description, I had this sort of flashback to an image that I saw on TV in Libya where you had Africans in a small room that were now captives and that image was from today,” she continued.
Child slaves imprisoned in African dungeons, Omar argued, are tantamount to illegal immigrant children who are separated from their parents when they cross the U.S. border illegally.
“Every time he would talk about the separation of the kids from their parents and have young girls be in the same dungeons as the women, or they would have young boys be in the same dungeons as the men,” she said, “I couldn’t stop seeing images of the current camps we have here at our borders in the United States.
“And so of the story that happened 400 years ago, I constantly had this reminder – this horrifying image – of many of the things that were taking place there in that dungeon now taking place, whether it is in the shores of North Africa or in the shores of the United States.”
“Squad” leader, freshman Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has repeatedly compared U.S. detention centers to “concentration camps,” despite eliciting outrage for invoking the Holocaust by doing so.
“According to concentration camp experts, people begin to die due to overcrowding, neglect, and shortage of resources,” the socialist congresswoman tweeted in July.
In June, after leaving a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility in Texas, Ocasio-Cortez claimed without substantiation Border Patrol agents were “sexually threatening” towards her, forcing illegal immigrants to drink out of toilets and subjecting them to other extreme conditions.
“Officers were keeping women in cells w/no water & had told them to drink out of the toilets,” she tweeted. “This was them on their GOOD behavior in front of members of Congress.”
Ocasio-Cortez alleges young children did not have access to clean diapers and insists detainees also reportedly went without ample access to clean water or food and have to resort to drinking from the toilets.
In a press conference following her “traumatizing” visit at the detention facility, the New York Democrat was heckled by local Trump supporters in both English and Spanish as she recounted the allegedly deplorable conditions of her visit.
“Trump 2020,” the crowd shouted.
Ocasio-Cortez’s claims also drew the ire of border patrol agents.
Tucson, Arizona’s Chief Patrol Agent Roy Villareal published a video July 3 refuting Ocasio-Cortez’s charges, showcasing an abundance of clean diapers, clean water and food in the facility.
Conservative commentator Candace Owens blew a hole through the Squad’s “filthy, disgusting, lies” alleging migrant detention centers are unsafe and decrepit.
Owen’s said the detention center she visited in Florida was better than any public elementary school and was stunned to learn illegal migrants are enjoying Zumba classes, a sand volleyball court, foosball tables, a soccer field, a hair salon, a computer-filled library, 24 hour medical care and other amenities while detained.
Omar and her fellow “Squad” members’ persistent condemnation of the United States’ rule of law and Anti-Israel rhetoric has provoked President Donald Trump and his supporters to insist they “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
“Then come back and show us how it is done,” Trump declared.
