Democrat Party presidential candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke attempted to put a jolt of energy into his flailing campaign by promising to take away your big scary guns, and he’s got the T-shirts to prove it.

“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15,” O’Rourke said during Thursday night’s Democratic Party debate.

You and what army, Beto?

After the debate, his campaign launched a new T-shirt as part of its merchandise collection. The gray shirt has O’Rourke’s gimmick debate line printed on it, and then says “Beto For America” at the bottom.

O’Rourke’s promise to confiscate weapons makes a good bumper sticker slogan (or in this case, T-shirt slogan) but it’s obviously never going to happen. If it did, it would cause massive violence and a civil war. Americans might legitimately revolt against those trying to confiscate weapons, which would be worse than any mass shooting we’ve ever seen.

The left really is devoid of any logic when it comes to the Second Amendment. Candidates like O’Rourke say that AR-15’s need to be confiscated because they are “weapons of war” that have no place on the streets. But when conservatives point out that Americans have a Second Amendment right to bear arms in the event that we need to fight a tyrannical government, the same gun-grabbers tell us that AR-15’s aren’t powerful enough for that.

Pick one.

Democrats like O’Rourke love ignoring facts about violent crimes, we reported yesterday:

There are so many reasons why O’Rourke is foolish for this proposal, not the least of which being that “assault weapons” is a made up term designed to scare people. Fully automatic rifles are already illegal in America. Further, banning what the left calls “assault weapons,” meaning AR-15s and similar semi-automatic rifles would drop the murder rate by less than one percent. The vast majority of annual murders in America are committed using handguns in inner cities with strict gun control policies. Those policies don’t work because criminals don’t follow laws – by definition.

In fact, more people are killed annually with hammers and clubs in the United States than are killed with rifles of any kind, according to recent Federal Bureau of Investigations statistics.

Despite the rhetoric, the latest Economist/YouGov poll has O’Rourke at a solid 1% in the polls. The message does not seem to be resonating outside of a small group of far-left, anti-gun fanatics. He did manage to report one Texas State House Representative to the FBI for an alleged “death threat,” though.

“My AR is ready for you Robert Francis,” Rep. Briscoe Cain (R) said in response to O’Rourke’s clamoring.

But O’Rourke is still talking tough on Twitter.

“Hell yeah, we’re going to take your AR-15. If it’s a weapon that was designed to kill people on the battlefield, we’re going to buy it back,” he said after Thursday’s debate.

O’Rourke is also finding support among one not-so-key demographic – teenaged gun-grabbers. Activist David Hogg praised him for his plan to trample on the Second Amendment:

“MFOL” is March for our Lives, the nonprofit started by Hogg’s handlers after they made him a star in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

The obvious problem with the strategy of appealing to teenagers is that most of them don’t vote. But at least O’Rourke can be hip with the youngsters while his campaign goes down in flames.
