Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday made a fool out of those who believed that former President Barack H. Obama’s willingness to capitulate to the brutal Iranian regime would stop them from pursuing nuclear capabilities.
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed what he said was a newly discovered Iranian nuclear weapons development site at Abadeh, south of Isfahan, during a hastily called press conference Monday afternoon,” according to Jerusalem Post and others. “The prime minister showed satellite photos of the site taken in June, and then – after the Iranians discovered that the site has been uncovered – pictures from July showing their attempts to cover-up and destroy the site.”
You might recall that back in 2015, the Obama administration handed Iran billions of dollars – a large portion of it in cash – in exchange for loosened sanctions and the promise that the Middle Eastern nation would dial back its nuclear aspirations. That didn’t happen.
“Netanyahu called on the international community to ‘wake up’ and ‘realize that Iran is systematically lying,'” according to JPost. “He called on the international community to ‘join President Trump’s sanction to exert more pressure on Iran. The only way to stop Iran’s march to the bomb and its aggression in the region is pressure, pressure and more pressure.'”
In 2018, Trump, who prefers toughness against the enemy, withdrew from the Nuclear Deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran. The move was heavily criticized by the Enemedia and Obama administration apparatchiks with blue check marks on Twitter – the same ones whose foreign policy (or non-policy, depending on your frame of reference) – led to the expansion of endless war, death, destruction, and trillions of dollars spent in the Middle East. You might remember, too, Obama promising to end that during his 2008 presidential campaign.
Today, Trump is vindicated.
“Netanyahu’s announcement came a day after Reuters reported that samples taken by the UN’s nuclear watchdog – the IAEA – at a site Netanyahu revealed last year during a speech at the UN showed traces of uranium. Netanyahu dubbed that site in Tehran as Iran’s ‘secret atomic warehouse,'” JPost said.
Still, there are Western leaders who are hell-bent on trusting the Iranian regime to keep its promises, and in the event that it does successfully build nuclear weapons, apparently trust Iran to use them wisely. Such a foolish miscalculation could only be made by an entrenched politician. Yet that’s exactly what French President Emmanuel Macron is doing.
French President Emmanuel Macron, known internationally as a pushover and an empty suit, has vowed to work with Iran to reinstate some of the provisions of the disastrous Iran Nuclear deal terminated by President Donald J. Trump in May of 2018.
“Iran is prepared to work on French proposals to salvage the international nuclear deal that Tehran signed with world powers in 2015 but it will not tolerate U.S. interference in the Gulf, its foreign minister said on Thursday,” according to Radio Farda. “In an effort to prop up the agreement, French President Emmanuel Macron offered on Wednesday to either soften sanctions on Iran or provide a compensation mechanism ‘to enable the Iranian people to live better’ in return for full compliance with the pact.”
Meanwhile, Netanyahu had a message for “the tyrants of Tehran.”
“Israel knows what you are doing, Israel knows when you are doing it, Israel knows where you are doing it,” he said. “We will continue to expose your lies. What you see is a consistent pattern of Iranian lies, deception and violations.”
