It was a wild morning in Stockholm, Sweden Friday as the original lawyer for American rapper A$AP Rocky was shot several times.
“Henrik Olsson Lilja was leaving his apartment building in downtown Stockholm shortly before nine this morning when a gunman approached and shot him,” Daily Mail said. “Neighbors saw a person wrestle the lawyer in a stairwell, before the shooting and gave Olsson Lilja a phone to call the police, who have since arrested several suspects.”
Authorities are describing the attack as an “ambush.”
Perhaps the most mysterious part of the ordeal is that an unnamed female lawyer – one who was barred from contacting Olsson Lilja – has been arrested after the shooting. It is unclear how she is related to the incident, but she did not pull the trigger. According to witnesses, the gunman jumped into an SUV and sped off, fleeing the scene. Police are still searching for him.
“One person has been arrested as a suspect for the attempted murder attempt,” Daily Mail said, quoting a spokesperson for the Stockholm prosecutors office.
It was not immediately clear whether that person was the female attorney, or another suspect, nor is it clear exactly how many suspects are involved.
Olsson Lilja first represented Rocky when he was arrested for assault in Sweden in July. Video of the incident fairly obviously showed him attempting to break up a fight in the street between he and members of his crew. Swedish authorities claimed that he used unnecessary force in separating the fighting parties.
The case caused an international outcry, as President Donald J. Trump and several celebrities, including Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, called on Swedish authorities to release the American rapper. Trump even met with Kanye during the ordeal.
“Just had a very good call with @SwedishPM Stefan Löfven who assured me that American citizen A$AP Rocky will be treated fairly. Likewise, I assured him that A$AP was not a flight risk and offered to personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative,” Trump said.
Five days later, he put Sweden and Löfven on blast, as he was displeased with the lack of progress in the case.
“Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly!” he said.
He also used the opportunity to bash Sweden for being overrun with Islamic migrants, which has caused the crime rate to soar.
“Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem!” he said.
The story had a happy ending, though, replete with presidential puns. He was convicted of the crime, but given a two year suspended sentence and was allowed to leave the country.
“A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!” Trump said upon Rocky’s release.
