Maher Invites Tlaib To Discuss Israel On His Show, Mocks ‘Boycott Culture’: ‘You Actually Have To Defend Your Point’

Leftist comedian Bill Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher, challenged Rep. Rashida Tlaib to come on his program Friday and address their feud over the boycotting of Israel.

Last week, Tlaib demanded viewers boycott Maher’s show after he devoted a segment of his program to repudiating the anti-Israel Boycott Divestment, Sanctions movement, arguing lawmakers who criticize Israel disregard Islamic terrorism.

“BDS is a bullshit purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class,” he said. “It’s predicated on this notion — I think it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong.”

Incensed by Maher’s comments, Tlaib shot back, “Maybe folks should boycott his show.”

“I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom,” she wrote. “This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa. It didn’t work then and it won’t now.”

Tlaib is at odds with her own party over Israel, Maher retorted.

“Some people have one move only: boycott. Cancel. Make-go-away,” he tweeted. “But here’s the thing, the house voted 318 to 17 to condemn the #BDS movement, including 93% of Dems. Does Tlaib want to boycott 93% of her own party?”

Maher later tweeted a correction to his earlier post.

“Hey I got my number of rep.s who voted to condemn BDS wrong – it’s actually even more, not 318, it’s 398,” he wrote

Maher on Friday argued political correctness is spawning a “boycott culture.”

“We’ve invited her onto this show, I hope she comes,” Maher said. “But you know, if you come on this show, then you actually have to defend your point as opposed to this one go-to that so many people seem to have today, which is just go away because then you don’t have to argue, you don’t have to defend your point of view. Just go away, boycott, you’re bad, too evil to talk to and I’m too good to talk to you.”
