Universal Cancels Movie Showing Trump Supporters Hunted for Sport After Massive Backlash

An important win for conservatives in the culture war.

Universal Pictures has cancelled a film set to be released in September after massive backlash over the film’s plot.

“While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film,” Vanity Fair report. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”

The Hunt depicted liberal elites hunting supporters of President Donald J. Trump, whom they called “deplorables” for sport. Before the film was totally cancelled, the filmmakers pulled some of the ads off the airwaves.

LauraLoomer.us reported on the saga Wednesday:

A movie set to be released in September features liberals hunting supporters of President Donald J. Trump for sport. Really.

“Did anyone see what our ratfucker-in-chief just did?” one character asks in The Huntaccording to The Hollywood Reporter.

“At least The Hunt’s coming up. Nothing better than going out to the Manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables,” another character responds.

In the wake of two mass shootings over the weekend, The Hollywood reporter said that the filmmakers have pulled some of their advertisements.

“Over the Aug. 3 weekend, ESPN pulled an ad for the film that it had previously cleared, while AMC ran the spot during the season premiere of its drama The Preacher,” the report said. “It’s unclear whether the ads were identical, but the one yanked by ESPN opened with a sound resembling an emergency broadcast signal. A rep for ESPN parent Disney declined to comment on the move, but an ESPN source says no spots for the film will appear on the network in the coming weeks.”

The plot of the film “follows a dozen MAGA types who wake up in a clearing and realize they are being stalked for sport by elite liberals,” according to the report.

The ads were pulled in the wake of two separate mass shootings that occurred last weekend, one in El Paso, Texas and one in Dayton, Ohio. The El Paso shooter left behind an anti-immigrant screed, for which the press blamed Trump, and the Dayton shooter was an Antifa sympathizer and satanist whose social media was filled with violent far-left rhetoric.

The film featured major Hollywood stars like Hilary Swank, Betty Gilpin, Ike Barinholtz, and Emma Roberts.

Trump appeared to weigh in on the film on Twitter, though he did not mention it specifically by name.

Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves ‘Elite,’ but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite,” he said on Twitter Friday. “The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!

Pressure from Trump combined with serious backlash on social media was enough for Universal to cancel the film completely, scoring an important win in the culture war for conservatives, who would prefer not to be hunted for sport by far-leftists.

  1. This film would never have gotten made if the situation had been reversed.
Now it will eventually be released (Universal is not going to eat that loss) once they think they can get away with it.

    I’m not a target.
If I become a target, I will be one that shoots back.
