Antifa is now one step closer to being officially designated a domestic terrorist organization after Congressman Jim Banks (R-IN) sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray asking the FBI to consider adding a subsection to their website for groups with “extremist ideologies,” that “properly encompasses Antifa’s political goals as openly broadcasted by its leaders on their social media platforms.”

Rep. Banks requested the new subsection be listed as “Anti-1st Amendment Extremists,” echoing the calls of President Donald Trump, Senator Bill Cassidy, Senator Ted Cruz, and other Republicans to consider officially listing Antifa as a domestic terror organization. The letter lists several examples of Antifa’s “criminal and dangerous activity”, including violence against journalists, and political opponents.

This subsection would be fittingly titled “Anti-1st Amendment Extremists.” Antifa often describes itself as a ‘counter protest’ organization with the stated goal of suppressing fascist speech, political demonstrations, and media. Conveniently, Antifa has redefined fascism to include anyone who disagrees with their opaque political agenda. What that agenda is exactly is imprecise by design—their central aim is to silence any and all moderate and conservative politics or ideologies.

I urge you to take this simple first step towards protecting our First Amendment rights from those that would destroy them. I look forward to your response regarding this request and other action the FBI is prepared to take in light of these aggressions.

Senators Ted Cruz, (R-Texas), and Bill Cassidy (R-La) filed a resolution to designate the militant left-wing group as domestic terrorists in July, shortly after members of Antifa attacked journalist Andy Ngo during a rally in Portland. The extremely violent attack included the openly gay minority journalist being struck with “assault gloves” and quick drying cement that had been disguised as milkshakes. Ngo was hospitalized after sustaining several severe injuries including cuts to his face and neck, heavy bruising and a brain bleed.

“I was beaten & robbed on 29 June by at least a dozen masked antifa assailants in downtown Portland. I was hospitalized with head contusions, a ripped ear & a brain hemorrhage. There have been no arrests. Please join me in my effort to seek justice. (link: https://publiuslex.com/pf/justice-for-andy-ngo/) publiuslex.com/pf/justice-for…

The attack on Ngo is one of numerous examples of the violence committed against innocent people at the hands of Antifa. The group has been known to start fires, break windows on buildings and cars, throw urine and feces on crowd goers, as well as using bats, fists, pipes, brass knuckles, and knives.

“Antifa is a terrorist organization composed of hateful, intolerant radicals who pursue their extreme agenda through aggressive violence. Time and time again their actions have demonstrated that their central purpose is to inflict harm on those who oppose their views, Sen. Cruz tweeted on July 18th, 2019.”

“Like any terrorist organization they choose to pursue their political ends through violence, fear & intimidation. They must be stopped. I’m proud to introduce this resolution w @SenBillCassidy to properly identify what Antifa are: domestic terrorists. —>,” Cruz continued in the tweet thread.

Senator Cassidy tweeted earlier in the month, “Antifa are terrorists, violent masked bullies who “fight fascism” with actual fascism, protected by Liberal-privilege. With bullies, they get their way til someone says no. There must be courage, not cowardice, from the elected officials who allow violence against the innocent.”

President Donald Trump explained in a tweet this past Saturday that “ANTIFA, the gutless Radical Left Wack Jobs who go around hitting (only non-fighters) people over the heads with baseball bats” could quite possibly find themselves listed alongside domestic terror organizations such as MS-13 and other known extremist groups.

By the FBI’s own definition listed on their website, domestic terrorism is defined as: “Perpetrated by individuals and/or groups inspired by or associated with primarily U.S.-based movements that espouse extremist ideologies of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.” Antifa certainly meets this criteria.
