President Donald Trump blasted House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings and the Democratic lawmaker’s failed leadership in the Baltimore-area congressional district on Sunday, aguing Cummings is a “racist.”

“Congressman Elijah Cummings has done a very poor job for his district and the City of Baltimore,” the president tweeted, claiming the congressman has “failed badly.”

Trump then doubled down on his attack, claiming Cummings is a bigot.

“If racist Elijah Cummings would focus more of his energy on helping the good people of his district, and Baltimore itself, perhaps progress could be made in fixing the mess that he has helped to create over many years of incompetent leadership,” Trump tweeted. “His radical “oversight” is a joke!”

On Saturday, Trump referred to Cummings’ district as “a disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess” and said that “no human being would want to live there.”

“Statistically, Baltimore ranks last in almost every major category,” Trump said, adding the congressman’s district should be investigated for all of the federal money invested there despite its being a “corrupt mess.”

Baltimore homicides exceeded 300 each year from 2015 through 2018, and 2019 is on track to cross the 300 threshold for the fifth year in a row,  the Baltimore Sun reports.

At least five people were shot, three fatally, in Baltimore on Saturday. Eight persons were reportedly shot in Baltimore on Friday, with one of the shooting victims succumbing to his wounds.

Democrats shot back against the president on Sunday shows in outrage, claiming Trump is the real racist.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who during the 2016 presidential campaign compared West Baltimore district to a “Third World country,” condemned Trump for attacking one of the most “outstanding” members of Congress.

“It’s unbelievable that we have a President of the United States who attacks American cities, who attacks Americans, who attacks somebody who is a friend of mine, Elijah Cummings is one of the most decent and outstanding members of the House of Representatives,” Sen. Bernie Sanders told CNN’s State of the Union. “He fights every day to improve life in his community.”

Biden chimed in, claiming Trump criticism of Cummings is tearing the nation down.

Trump’s attack on Cumming’s failed leadership is, “disgusting” and “racist,” echoed Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY).

“The president is as he usually is often is disgusting and racist. They’re designed to distract attention from the very serious allegations about his conduct that came from the committee hearings this week. The fact is, the president accepted help from the Russians to attack our election,” Nadler told ABC’s This Week. “His campaign worked with the Russians, that’s undisputed, and he works hard to cover up to cover those crimes and committed more crimes. He’s trying to change the subject.”

Trump is the first Republicans to expose the Democrat party’s racism, amid “the standard operating procedure from the Democrat Party playbook” bombarding Republicans with charges of racism, conservative talk radio show host Rush Limbaugh explained Monday.

“Do you realize for most of our lives this has been the number one political weapon and charge the Democrats have made against all of their opponents? Racist, racism, bigot,” Limbaugh said. “What’s different this time — in the past there was never a Republican that pushed back against it. I don’t care who it was. They called George W. Bush a racist. They called Reagan a racist. They call all of us racists. None of the official elected Republicans ever pushed back against it, so it was just allowed to sit there.

“Donald Trump pushes back. Donald Trump pushes back. You hit him, he’ll double down hitting you back. You come back at him, he’ll triple down. This is what we are in the middle of,” he continued.

While unemployment among African Americans during the Trump administration has been at a sustained, unprecedented low, Democrats will ramp up allegations of racism to maintain support from their base.

“They’re the ones calling all of us racists all the time. And the reason for this is multifaceted, but the primary reason they do it is to gin up the African-American vote. That’s why they do it. They’re not really worried about racism and people being racist. It’s all concocted. They haven’t done anything for the African-American vote. The people that have been voting, African-Americans that have been voting for Democrats are still as unhappy as they always have been, they’re still as unsatisfied as they always have been,” he said.

“When the Democrats run the show, African-American unemployment doesn’t change. It doesn’t get better. Lifestyles for African-Americans do not improve. But all of that has happened under the Trump presidency. And they’re paranoid about it,” he continued. “So all of this represents a threat to a gigantic coalition the Democrats have long since taken for granted, the African-American vote.”
