Public schools in Turkey are using a textbook laced with anti-American references, including allegations that 9/11 was justifiably perpetrated by Islamic radicals and caused the United States to become “the main source of problems in the world,” in a 12th-grade modern history class.
The textbook, authored by Emrullah Alemdar and Savas Keles, was produced by the Turkis government and reportedly condones the 9/11 terrorist attacks perpetrated by AlQaeda.
“The United States, which has more say with the self-confidence it gained in the aftermath of the Cold War but complies less with international agreements, has started to see itself as one above equals in international relations,” the textbook states, according to Nordic Monitor
“From that point forward,” it continues, “deciding which countries would be punished and what systems would be changed relied on definitions and references made by the US. These practices by the US are one of the reasons behind the al-Qaeda terrorist organization’s attack on 9/11,” the book states on pages 262 and 263.
It also characterized the European Union as a Christian club led by the pope.
According to the text, Turkey, a predominantly Muslim nation, was denied membership to the EU because all members of the union are Christian.
The textbook’s propaganda echoes the sentiments of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, proving Erodgan is infusing his inflammatory rhetoric into the country’s education system.
Erdogan, who claimed in 2017 a photograph of the pope accompanied by leaders of the EU proves the EU is a Christian bloc, regularly accuses the Western world of hating Muslims and wanting to see people of the Muslim faith dead.
“They look like friends, but they want us dead, they like seeing our children die. How long will we stand that fact?” he warned in 2014 during an address to the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul
In March, Erodgan claimed a deadly attack on two mosques in New Zealand illustrated how the West “idly” watches as hostility against Islam intensifies.
“With this attack, hostility towards Islam, that the world has been idly watching and even encouraging for some time, has gone beyond individual harassment to reach the level of mass killing,” Erdogan said at the funeral of a former Turkish minister.
Scandal-plagued Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has been a vocal supporter of Turkey and is frequently praised by the Turkish media.
In Sept. 2017, Omar reportedly flew to New York City to hold a closed-door meeting with Erodgan when he arrived for the 72nd U.N. General Assembly. While the meeting was not widely reported, photos of Omar and the despotic ruler of Turkey appeared later appeared on social media.
Omar told the Tusmo Times that she and Erdogan discussed issues involving Somalia and Somali Americans and thanked Erdogan for his support for the Rohingya people in Myanmar. Erdogan also reportedly asked Omar to voice her support for Turkey.
While speaking to the Los Angeles chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in March, Omar trivialized the severity of the attacks 9/11.
As Omar complained about Islamophobia being prevalent in the United States, she argued: “CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognize that some people did something, and then all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.”
Not only was Omar lying about he founding of CAIR (CAIR was founded in 1994, 7 years BEFORE 9/11), but she had no problem trivializing, and many would argue celebrating, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, just like her Turkish allies.
