(VIDEO) Jeering Men Douse NYPD Officers With Buckets Of Water, Police Blame Mayor de Blasio

Bucket of Water Outside

Shocking footage posted on social media Monday shows officers of the New York City Police Department getting doused in bucketfuls of water by young men and Harlem.

An officer can be seen in one clip getting hit in the back of the head with an empty plastic bucket while he and his partner apprehended a suspect on the hood of a car.

NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan called the video of the attack on officers “reprehensible.”

“NYC’s cops & communities have made remarkable progress — together — but EVERY New Yorker MUST show respect for our cops. They deserve nothing less,” Monahan wrote.”

Another officer told New York Post, “Everybody’s outraged.”

“It’s disgusting, embarrassing,” he said. “There’s lawlessness around here now.”

Bystanders are seen in the footage laughing as water is being hurled at the cops.

A police source told the Post Mayor Bill de Blasio’s “hands-off approach to these guys” is to blame for the incidents.

“Who does that in their right frame of mind? People who believe there’s no consequences,” the source said. “There’s total anarchy out here. This is very sad.”

De Blasio has drawn the ire of law enforcement throughout his tenure in office, facing the allegation that his ultra-progressive leadership has emasculated the police department.

Last month, the Sergeants Benevolent Association, a police union, warned the 2020 presidential candidate is “full of shit” and blasted the New York City mayor for claiming police violently target minorities during the first Democratic presidential debate.

“I’ve had to have very, very serious talks with my son, Dante, about how to protect himself in the streets of our city … including the fact that he has to take special caution because there have been too many tragedies between young men and our police,” de Blasio said during the debate.

A day later, expressed condolences to an off-duty police officer who committed suicide in his home in a tweet.

The SBA shot back, arguing de Blasio’s condolement is disingenuous.

“You’re full of shit! You bashed every cop in the country last night in the DNC debate. You use cops for your own gain,” SBA wrote. “Truth is you could care less about cops, so save the sympathy card for the clowns who believe your crap.”

The president of the Police Benevolent Association, Patrick Lynch, also released a statement condemning the mayor’s debate remarks.

“Mayor de Blasio has apparently learned nothing over the past six years about the extremely damaging impact of anti-police rhetoric on both cops and the communities we serve,” Lynch said. “The hostile and dangerous environment we now face on the street is a direct result of the demonization of cops by de Blasio and other elected officials.”

Lynch added, “By rolling out that rhetoric again on a national stage, it’s clear he wants to take the country down the same path.”

After footage of officers sopping-wet in uniform surfaced on social media, Lynched warned, “We are approaching the point of no return.”

“Disorder controls the streets, and our elected leaders refuse to allow us to take them back,” he told the Post. “As police officers, we need to draw a line. In situations like this, we need to take action to protect ourselves and the public. The politicians may not care about the dangerous levels of chaos in our neighborhoods, but police officers and decent New Yorkers should not be forced to suffer.”
