Twitter Boosts #AnyBodyButTrump Hashtag During President’s 2020 Campaign Kickoff

The hashtag #AnybodyButTrump is trending on social media after Orlando, Florida’s largest newspaper, Orlando Sentinel, refused to support President Donald Trump ahead of his reelection campaign launch in Orlando, Florida.

The Orlando Sentinel, which traditionally endorses Republican presidential candidates, published an editorial Tuesday slamming Trump’s presidency ahead of his 2020 campaign launch in the city this evening. The paper gave a sweeping endorsement of anybody but Trump.

“There’s no point in pretending we would ever recommend that readers vote for Trump,” they wrote.  “After 2 1/2 years we’ve seen enough. Enough of the chaos, the division, the schoolyard insults, the self-aggrandizement, the corruption, and especially the lies.”

The paper endorsed Republican candidates dating back to 1952 with the exception of Lyndon Johnson against Barry Goldwater in 1964, John Kerry over President George W. Bush’s reelection, and Hillary Clinton over Trump in 2016.

Over 20,000 Trump supporters filled the arena in which the president is announcing his reelection bid, while an estimated 120,000 of the president’s supporters reportedly stood in line outside the venue in hopes of seeing the commander-in-chief. In fact, Trump supporters began lining up on Sunday, nearly 2 days prior to the campaign kickoff, to hear the president speak.

Amid the biggest presidential kickoff in US history, Twitter, which has notoriously banned top conservative accounts from its platform, capitalized on the Orlando Sentinals anti-Trump op-ed by promoting the hashtag #AnybodyButTrump and suppressing pro-Trump hashtags.

Twitter users used the hashtag to attack Trump’s presidency and his campaign kickoff.

Leftist groups are protesting the president’s 2020 announcement. Some Hispanic community leaders told local outlet News 13 that they would protest blocks from where the campaign announcement is taking place. More than 60 percent of Orange County, where the city is located, voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

As is always the case, Florida will be a key battleground state during the 2020 presidential campaign.
