Amid a massive crowd of enthusiastic supporters, President Donald Trump hinted during his reelection campaign speech that his newly resigned press secretary may soon launch her own campaign.
“By the way, a woman who has been so good, so talented, so wonderful, and we are sort of going to be losing her,” Trump said, referring to Sanders, an hour into his speech. “I have a feeling she is going to be running for a certain gubernatorial position.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis shouldn’t worry, the president quipped.
“Don’t worry about it Ron, it’s not going to be in Florida I promise you,” he said.
Sanders is “a special woman” Trump continued, noting her father, former Arkansas governor and Fox News host Mike Huckabee, is “out there fighting for us all the time”
He then called Sanders to the stage. She didn’t confirm Trump’s insinuation of her gubernatorial run, but she vowed to continue advocating for the president, predicted he will win reelection, and said she is going to take some time to be with her children.
“Thank you, Mr. President,” Sanders said as the crowd roared. “This has been truly the honor of a lifetime. One of the most incredible experiences anybody could imagine, and that’s because I’ve had the chance to be on the front row of history and watch you drastically change our country for the better,” she said. You’ve made America great, you are going to continue to make America great.
“I couldn’t be prouder to be on your team. I am going to spend a little time with my kids. But no one would be a stronger voice and more fierce advocate for this president because he is fighting for all of the people in this room and for all of the people that you represent all over the country. He’s going to have an incredible six more years to make our country as strong as its ever been.”
Last week, Trump announced Sanders, who became a star among Trump supporters for her fierce defenses of the president in past briefings and on cable news, was leaving her position as White House Press Secretary after a turbulent, two-year run as the president’s top spokesperson.
