O.J. Simpson has reigned in the 25th anniversary of his wife’s murder by launching a Twitter account with a video post in which the former football star said he’s got a ”little gettin’ even to do.”
In the early hours of Friday morning, the 71-year old former NFL player created an account under the username @TheRealOJ32, referencing the jersey number he wore.
“If you don’t see it here, I didn’t say it,” Simpson’s bio on the page reads.
A video pinned and posted to the top of his profile, which has more than one million views, features Simpson announcing his debut on the social media platform.
“Hey Twitter world, this is yours truly and I’m coming soon to Twitter,” Simpson says in the video he appeared to recall himself. “You get to read all my thoughts and opinions on just about everything.”
”Now, there’s a lot of fake O.J. accounts out there,” he said, adding that this one would be official.
Twitter users replied to Simpson’s announcement blasting and mocking the convicted felon in the comment section.
On June 13, 1994, Nicole Brown Simson and her friend, Ron Goldman were stabbed outside her Los Angeles home. After Simson became the prime suspect in the murder, the nation was brought to a screeching halt as the fled from police, leading a convoy of police cars down southern California’s freeways.
Simpson was found not guilty in the televised murder trial that ignited racial tension and police misconduct. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million for the wrongful deaths of his wife and Goldman, but most of the judgement has yet to be paid.
While Simpson has repeatedly declared his innocence in the two slayings, but he ultimately served time in prison for another crime. In 2007, he was convicted on armed robbery and kidnapping charges after he attempted to steal back some of his sports memorabilia from a Las Vegas hotel room. He sentenced to 33 years in prison, nine years minimum without parole. He was released in October 2017.
OJ’s arrival on Twitter was not taken well by everyone.
Social media bias critics on the right were quick to point out the absurdity surrounding Twitter allowing OJ to have an account while banning prominent conservatives like Laura Loomer and Alex Jones.
So people who say “offensive” things like Gavin and Loomer are not allowed here, but actual murderers are fine. I don’t want OJ silenced either, but it’s kind of crazy that opinions are worse than you know… doing murder. https://t.co/YWndZC23PE— Cassandra Fairbanks (@CassandraRules) June 15, 2019
